About me

I’m Bob, a product design leader with a deep passion for enhancing enterprise products, nurturing talent, and expanding knowledge. At the heart of my work is a commitment to understanding users, which I believe is essential for simplifying complex systems and creating intuitive, efficient solutions.

My Journey

My career began in Vancouver’s dynamic film industry, contributing to productions like Battlestar Galactica, Tron, and finally Eureka as an Assistant Set Decorator. Despite my success, I pursued further education at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, initially focusing on Industrial Design before discovering my true calling in Interaction Design. This revelation led me to an internship at SAP, where I honed my UX design skills, particularly in data analytics. My journey since has spanned designing fintech solutions, enhancing asset management software, and evolving into a leadership role, shaping both products and people.

My Passions

I’m drawn to the outdoors, finding joy in harvesting oysters, fishing, and immersing myself in nature through camping and lake floating. Books are another passion, from the tactile experience of reading paperbacks to the immersive experience of audiobooks. I thrive at the intersection of art and analysis, embracing both creative endeavors and the structured world of spreadsheets. This duality fuels my desire for continuous learning, self-exploration, and self-improvement.

My values

  • Community: I foster a collaborative environment built on trust, inclusivity, and mentorship, prioritizing co-creation over dictation.
  • Autonomy: I value clear expectations and trust in my team's decision-making, advocating for a culture free from micromanagement.
  • Respect: Open communication and respect are non-negotiable, ensuring all voices are heard and valued.
  • Growth: I am committed to both personal and collective growth, encouraging continuous learning and development.

My skills

  • Leadership: I build strong relationships across all organizational levels, ensuring alignment and fostering innovation.
  • Emotional Intelligence: I support my team with empathy, especially during challenges, strengthening our bond.
  • Clarity: I excel in demystifying complex information, aligning our team’s approach.
  • Professional Development & Growth: I’ve established development programs focusing on long-term growth and shared values.
  • Product Design for Complex Enterprise Domains: My expertise in navigating complex challenges has led to successful project outcomes and is a key part of my project support and mentorship.
  • Sprint and Capacity Planning: My adaptable planning ensures focused and productive teamwork.
